First World Cup For Spain
2010 World cup will not be famous for great games of football but it will surely be famous for two reasons. One because Spain won it’s first ever World cup and second being the first ever World cup hosted in African soil. Iker Casillas when interviewed by his beautiful fiance who was wearing a lovely silver jewellery necklace told the media that this is fantastic achievement by a Spanish team.
Spain was most bookies’ favourite at the start of the tournament but after they lost the first game to Switzerland lots of people started questioning their mentality. But there was no questioned asked when they beat Holland in the final. It was a tactical battle and Holland did not play the game they normally play. Several fouls were committed by both teams. Holland conceded 28 fouls and Spain 19. Holland just sat back and counter attacked and Spain played the way they normally play.
Holland had their chances to score when Arjen Robben was through on goal twice but Casillas saved both efforts. Then one of the best players of the tournament Andres Iniesta scored a wonderful goal to win it for Spain. Then as soon as the final whistle went the celebration started as it should do. Dutch players went straight to Howard Webb (the referee of the match) to complaint about the corner he never gave before the goal. Yes it was a corner and yes it was a foul on Elia before the goal was scored and if he would have given it who knows what the outcome would have been. Overall Webb did well but I thought he was a bit too soft on tackles made by Dutch players on Spanish players.
Iker Casillas who started at 19 won his 112 on the day and he is not even 30. Holding the trophy as a captain must be some feeling. After the match some Spanish players kissed their silver rings and silver bracelets in the memory of their loved ones. It was great scenes.
