performance contained flashes of both. Nor was it a jazz concert, exactly, or
a simple pop-crossover move. Dapper in a tri-tone sports jacket, vest and
turquoise dress shirt, Mr. Bleckmann sang “Wuthering Heights,” a song from Ms.
Bush’s debut LP, “The Kick Inside,” which channels Emily Brontë’s heroine
Catherine, and here featured an angular piano solo by Henry Hey.
> If Ms. Bush’s lush recordings are like Georgia O’Keeffe canvases, Mr.
Bleckmann’s vivid readings are like charcoal sketches: where Ms. Bush’s are
layered, impressionistic and personal, his are lean, yet strikingly true to
the originals’ form and feel.
