When you walk in the store, keep an eye out for the rings that feature a single large diamond that looks a little bit like a lethal weapon. It’s easy to remember the name of these rings. They are solitaire engagement rings. Think of the card game you play alone when you’re bored. Remember that and impress your fiance with your technical terminology.
Another type of ring is the eternity ring. This one, too is fairly easy to remember. It will have diamonds running all the way around the circumference of the ring. This unbroken string of diamonds represents eternity.
Eternity rings can be hideously expensive because of the numbers of diamonds on them. Mercifully, the people who design and manufacture rings have come up with a solution that is cheaper but retains the symbolism of everlasting love. These are trilogy rings. They are called this because they have only three diamonds, representing past, present and future.
You really can’t go wrong with princess cut engagement rings. These elegant looking rings have diamonds that have been Cut Square. It’s a good bet that she’ll love you and her new ring if you buy her one of these. They are made for princesses and every bride wants to feel like a princess. If you’re the romantic type who wants to offer her a ring when you ask for her hand, consider getting one of these.
If you really want to be an expert, you’re going to have to know about things like cut, color, clarity and depth. This gets very technical, but if you just know the terminology, you can fake it and the salesperson will likely back you up, even when you’re wrong. They don’t want to alienate a customer, after all.
That’s about all you need to know, really. You aren’t expected to be an expert and your girlfriend or fiance will be deeply impressed even with this little bit of knowledge. As a matter of fact, if you blow it, it won’t matter. She’ll love you for trying, because it shows you care.
