A Day At The Mall
This was going to be a long shopping trip. First she grumbled about having to carry a tote bag. She finished the grumbling by saying she wasn't interested in buying any school clothes.
Five years from now she would begin to enjoy a trip to the shopping mall. She would want to go through every single store. She would almost be ready for a charge card of her own.
This was not a day when a fashionista of the future would enjoy shopping. She'd rather play in her sandbox at home. She didn't want school clothes. She even refused to carry any packages.
I reminded the little tyke that we were buying her school clothes after all. Why shouldn't she help carry some of them? She was about to say that unacceptable phrase, whatever, but stopped herself in time.
Well can we at least go for ice cream after we pick out ugly clothes, she wanted to know. She thought she had enough clothes. She made a remark that was very unexpected. She said she wanted to eat ice cream and let it drip on the brown boot on her left foot.
What is she thinking, I wondered as I giggled a little. I asked what she wanted to do that for. What an imagination she has I mused. I asked why just one foot and why the left one. She seriously informed me that she hated her left foot.
She grimaced in a grumpy way and told me she liked her right foot better than her left foot. She wanted to be mad at her left foot. She said she hated her left foot.
Having no plausible answer for such a silly statement I handed her a bag to carry. Off we went to the mall. First we bought jeans in blue and black and a pair of white shorts that were on sale. Next we looked at sweaters.
She said she liked the jeans. She said it was too hot to buy a sweater though. I had to agree it was hard to think of wearing sweaters when the outside temperature was 80 degrees.
We did find some sweaters, one red, one blue and a yellow one. We also found tights and new socks. Then we were on our way to look at shoes.
There they were, a beautiful pair of women's brown boots in soft suede. She said she loved them and asked if we could buy them. I told her they would be too big for her feet. She kept saying she wanted them I told her to wait till she grew a little. We could find girl's boots just like them.
Groaning to myself, I expected her to rebel. But she surprised me. She didn't complain at all. I waited patiently. She thought about it for a few minutes.
Pleased with her change of attitude I turned to go to the ice cream shop. We discussed the variety of flavors to choose from. She even said she liked her new clothes. We got our cookie dough ice cream cones and went on our way home.
