Glass Byzantine Mosaic Art
Mosaic art is in essence an art form created using small pieces of stone. A decorative art form, Mosaics are suited to a wide diversity of locations including being widely used by cathedrals and interior designers the world over.
In order to create a mosaic small pieces of stone need to be cut to size which if you are doing this manually can be difficult. Once the tile has been created the small pieces of natural stone or glass can be inlaid into decorative designs from table tops to walls and floors being particular rugged in areas which are damp.
People whom see the value of mosaics tend to understand the uniqueness of the designs. With no two patterns ever being the same you can be assured of adorning your walls or bathroom with something that nobody else has. It is often said that mosaic art is a form of art in itself with many famous works of art being protected and safeguarded for future generations; why would we protect such art if we did not think it was valuable?.
Not only used as decoration but also as pieces of art in their own right mosaics have such a diverse range of uses from wall art to table tops.
The growth of mosaics in design was partly as a result of the Byzantine Empire whom made famous their use in religious architecture in churches and cathedrals across the world. The popularity of mosaics was really bought into the mainstream as a result of their use by the Romans whom used a wide variety of natural stones as well as introducing brilliantly coloured glass mosaics into their intricate designs.
Particularly in relation to glass mosaics, the light which is reflected from the surface of the glass provides a beautiful texture to the pattern and whenever the sun is placed upon the design a delightful hue.
