St. Christopher, The Guardian Of Travellers, A Life Of Service.
The story of St. Christopher as well as St. Christopher Medal is really a unique component of Christian gospel. He is perceived as a sizable man of enormous power who lived in the third century throughout the rule of Decius.

As an alternative, the hermit advised that he could use his strength to assist travelers cross a hazardous river. This was a service that suited him, perfectly.
One day a young child arrived to be transported across the river. Offero took the child on his shoulders, but while he crossed the river, the child became heavy until Christopher dreaded he would fall and they would likely both drown.
When he enquired little one why was so heavy, the child revealed that he was Jesus Christ and answered that he was heavy with the weight from the world’s sins.
Not one to give up, Offero forged onward with significant difficulty and traversed the river together with the Christ child on his shoulders. As soon as they reached the other bank, Christ asked Offero to press his staff in to the earth. When he did, the staff transformed into an exquisite blooming tree, and Offero was honored.
Christ subsequently baptized Offero in the river and gave him his christian name, Christopher which – means “Christ-bearer.”
The St. Christopher medallion depicts a bearded, middle-aged man. Upon his shoulders sit a child which represents Christ, and in his hand is a staff. The wording “Svts. Christophorvs Protector Noster,” that means “Saint Christopher Our Protector” circles the medallion.
The medal is put on to guard travelers and is particularly said to provide safety from lightening, pestilence, flood and epilepsy.
Christopher spent the rest of his life within the service of Christ and worked tirelessly to pass on Christ’s lessons. He was killed a martyr in Lycia, in 251 A.D.
Lots of people feel that St. Christopher was decanonized in 1969 and the man is not really a saint. But, this is not true:
All through the 1960s, the Catholic church assessed and changed the Calendar of Saints, and eliminated the feast days of several saints such as the celebration of St. Christopher that had been on July 25th.
Christopher is always a saint, but his day of celebration, July 25, is no longer noted on the Catholic calendar.
Despite this misunderstanding, loyalty to St. Christopher carries on. Travelers wear St. Christopher medals around their necks, and set St. Christopher medallions and statues on their dashboards, key chains or clip them to sun visors to keep him close and to shield them.
St. Christopher also has followers who are soldiers. Where a soldier cannot wear or keep a medal on his person, he might carry a St. Christopher prayer card in their wallet.
