Is Success Determined By The Way A Person Thinks?

Created by Jimmie Burroughs

"For as he thinketh in his heart , so is he:" Proverbs 23: 7

Can you think your way to health and riches, and does it also work the opposite: are you able to think your way to poverty, illness and death? I intend to show there is a factor of truth for both these concepts.

Is success determined by the way someone thinks? Does the way someone thinks establish their life for bad or good, better or worse? The fake doctrine of the new age movement has taken this idea to the maximum by exclaiming we attract things to ourselves by the way we think, whether they be bad or good. It is called the Law of attraction. There's no truth in that way of translating As a man thinketh. You actually are not going to get a new Porsche by simply captivating it to you by your thoughts. It will probably take some hard work and saving your cash, or excellent credit and making the payments.

Though the reality is that we do cause things to happen by our thoughts. For instance, if your thoughts are those of acrimony and loathing, it is going to tear down your well-being and you are going to die before your time. It's been proven many times through experiments with animals and also noted in humans that stress, hate and anger are killers to the body.

Psychosomatic sickness is produced by the thoughts of the mind. Psychosomatic illness is a disorder that involves both body and mind . To paraphrase, the illness may be emotional or psychological in origin but have physical symptoms. Psychosomatic sicknesses are not imaginary. They're physical abnormalities in which both emotions and thought patterns are believed to play an important role, and customarily develop when a person's disease-fighting capability is weakened due to stress. After an especially nerve-wrangling event, like the loss of a friend, as an example, an individual might develop elevated blood pressure shortly afterwards or even have a heart attack. In another person, the same scenario might lead straight to a peptic ulcer or a collection of asthma attacks. A 3rd individual, similarly as grief-stricken, may not become sick at all. For a psychosomatic illness to happen, someone must first be exposed in a particular body system. It is important for these sicknesses to be recognised and treated shortly as they happen. Positive thoughts make a positive disposition which braces the immunological reaction and wards off illness. Negative thoughts work the reverse. Napoleon Hill related in his book, Think and grow rich , that our thoughts play a big part in whether we grow extremely rich or not. Is that true? Yes to a degree. We can do those things which we think we will be able to do, or unable to do those things which we think we are able to not and don't even try. Henry Ford said that, If you think you can, or you think you can't, you are right . Therefore yes, our thought patterns do play a significant part in success or failure.

When William Amherst Vanderbilt Cecil, Jr. Inherited the 250 room Biltmore Mansion, (still the largest private home in the U. S.) after his grandfather's death, George Vanderbilt, he was told that it was totally impossible to make the mansion ever to be profitable as a privately owned museum. At the time the mansion was losing a quarter of million dollars per year. However, Cecil assumed he could do what the pro minds related was very unlikely, but it took years and a tremendous lot of difficult work and millions of greenbacks. Today Biltmore Mansion it is visited by around 900,000 folks per year and shows a good profit. He could have accepted what others assumed but didn't. He thought that he could and he did.

What we think does play a crucial part in all that we do. For the best results we want to use precision thinking which goes further than standard thinking. It includes knowledge and wisdom. There is a way of thinking as prescribed by the Bible that goes even outside the physical and incorporates the spiritual. The following verses outlines the course of thinking that really does make the difference in how we live:

  • Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Phil 2:5
  • And be not concurred with this world: but be ye transformed by the renewal of your mind , that ye may prove what is that good, and sufficient, and perfect, will of The Lord God. Romans 12:2
  • Think on things that are pure and truthful and of a good report. Philippians 4:8.

What type of mind did Christ have?

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Phil 2:5

There is. Doubtless today that Jesus is the most influential figure of history. But how did he think? Did he think about getting rich? Did he think about becoming famous? Did he think about building his own earthly dominion like his forebears, King David and King Solomon? His actions didn't bear out that he considered any of those things. His actions always were directed in helping people. He might have altered his message and included thousands of followers and became loaded, but he did not and accordingly thousands turned to follow him no more. He basically spent his time on earth teaching 12 men and one of those, Judas, betrayed him.

When Jesus died on the cross, he had only about 120 supporters to show for 3 years of labor, and all he owned was the attire on his back. Today , however , there are millions who know and trust in Jesus as a result of the time he spent teaching 12 men the way to spread the gospel.

Jesus had a mind that wanted to serve and help others. What he did did not make him rich, but it does those who trust in him. Not rich in substantial things especially, but in spiritual things which make life here on earth rewarding , as well as the guarantee of never-ending life in heaven where there will be mansions and street of gold.

Napoleon Hill in his book,Think and grow rich recognized this truth that thinking of others and their wishes does actually also lead directly to real money. It is the grounds on which his book was written.

Be not conformed to the world

And be not adhered to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind , that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of Almighty God. Romans 12:2

It is hard to be an individual and think for yourself and not as the world thinks. But the idea of refusing to conform with the world plays a vital role in our life and can determine what standard of living we live and in a few cases how long we live. I've known those in my life who would have still been living doubtless had they not fitted with the world?s standards. Many of them left this world at a particularly young age. This is seen quiet regularly in the drug ridden entertainment world: Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston, three of the greatest entertainers of the 20th century all died in their 40s of drug related deaths.

A definition of conform is to yield to another's pattern, a wish to be like someone, look like somebody, act like somebody, dress like someone. A conformist is afraid to be themselves and does not feel just like being themselves is ok.

The danger in conforming is it'll lead you to do things you would not customarily do. Conforming to the planet's standards includes three things the Bible warns against:

  • Corresponding with the lust of the flesh (immorality)
  • Complying with the lust of the eyes (materialism)
  • Concurring with the pride of life (arrogance)

Paul inspires us to be a transformers instead of a conformist. Bing a transformer is what personal growth is about: transforming into something better. Not conforming to those things which may bring harm into our life and pull us down. The choice is ours to make. We will be able to refuse to be driven like sheep to the massacre, and instead stand on our own principles even if we must stand alone, but that takes backbone

Think on the right things

Think on things that are pure and truthful and of a good report. Philippians 4:8.

We are only ready to think one thought at a time and we select what it is going to be. It can be a stream of sterile, negative thoughts or we will be able to fill our mind with things that have purpose and meaning, leading to a productive life. Great thinkers waste little time on insignificant thoughts of hate and anger for which they can make little difference, but instead think on those things which they can do to make a difference.

Conclusion:

Since our thought patterns are so important, I challenge you to rethink your own thought patterns. Be objective and establish if you're thinking your way to better things or if you're heading straight for a train wreck because of thought of hatred and acrimony or a mix of usually negative, unproductive thoughts. It has long since been my faith that my relationship to God has let me rid myself of hate and sourness and center my thoughts on the positive things in life. I know for sure that it has brought peace and contentment into my life.

D. Earl Cripe, Ph.D (1934-2011) held firmly to Historic Orthodox Christian Theology that the Bible is the only guide to the faith and practice of the Church. Towards that end during his more than forty-seven years of ministry he penned numerous volumes of expository Bible commentaries. In them he takes the reader verse-by-verse through the chosen book of the Bible, explaining the original meanings…

Enemies of the Cross of Christ: The Terminology of the Cross and Conflict in Philippians (Library Of New Testament Studies)

‘Enemies of the Cross’ employs classical rhetorical analysis to examine how Paul structures a deliberative argument using his understanding of the ‘cross of Christ’. His goals are to guide/advise the Philippian community through internal and external strife (ch. 2), combat his opponents (ch.3), and develop his notion of the eschatological community (3:18-21). Williams proposes that while Paul has …
