What Will You Find In Mayaland
The Yucatan Peninsula is a place of extraordinary history, ecological elegance and prehistoric wonders. There is quite a bit in this area that makes it unique from the remainder of Mexico. Up until the 1950s the Yucatan stayed relatively isolated from the remainder of the motherland that was finally linked through railroads as well as later a highway by the 1960s. Prior to that point the Yucatans connection to the external world was by ocean and consisted largely of trade with Caribbean islands, the US and Europa. In 1972 the plans of a resort community were introduced focused on what’s currently Cancun, Mexico which is becoming certainly one of the most popular traveler hotspots around the world!
It is obviously the natural beauty of this location that attracts a lot of visitors to Yucatan; aided by the turquoise waters of the Caribbean to the south, the calm gulf waters to the north and lush jungles and underground rivers in between, it is no wonder people from all over the world gather to this tropical paradise! Nature, Mayan way of life and hospitality bring people back year after year. The powder white beaches, Mayan ruins, cenotes (underground rivers) and varied wildlife are a few of the regions highlights.
While there are many different Yucatan hotel options today; including numerous mega resorts that offer all-inclusive style vacations; they are usually confined in nature and do little to reveal the rich beauty and culture of the region! Based on personal experiences and years of feedback, we have come to believe the best choice for getting a true flavor of the area is by discovering the smaller and lesser known Yucatan hotels and resorts. These places aren’t your characteristic mega resorts nevertheless do offer many of the identical amenities and whatís more, a freedom of opportunity to really discover the place and uncover adventure. Unfortunately, the misperception regarding the safety of the area seems to promote the all-inclusive options versus getting out in it. As a full-time resident of Tulum, Mexico for just about 3 years now, I can personally testify to the safe travels in the area.
We have heard from hundreds of people and have visited lots of the best small resorts on the Yucatan and haven’t for one moment felt unsafe. In fact you will feel more at home in one of these smaller boutique hotels than anything you would experience at a huge all-inclusive alternative. The charm and generosity found off the beaten Yucatan path produce stories which will last a lifetime and the people you encounter in these places will feel more like kin than one can imagine. You might be surprised on return visits that they’ll still remember your names!
The Yucatan is much more than Cancun mega resorts, exclusive Playa del Carmen hotels and spring break crowds. Watch the turtles lay eggs on the beach from one of many tulum hotels, swim with the whale sharks and watch a mind blowing sunset in one of many plush Holbox hotels. Venture out, step outside the box and find your Mexico, come across your Yucatan, a region where fun, adventure and once in a lifetime experiences are made. See you in Mexico!
