Use Of Gold Jewelry In Different Civilization
Gold has always been a pull for human kind. Its scarceness and popularity makes it one of the important and valuable metals long since the history of human civilization. The value of the gold made it an ideal metal for exchange but it’s the great thing about the gold that made it actually popular as the jewelry. Many civilizations across the history have used the gold to make a novel design of jewelry suiting their culture and civilization.
The ancient Egyptians were one of the civilizations that preferred the utilisation of gold in almost all of their jewelries. Since the gold did not tarnish and doesn’t lose its shine, it made the gold a very popular among the pharos of Egypt. Many attractive necklaces, bands, armlets, pendants etc have been found made up of gold in the ancient Egyptian period. An excavation in 1922 led by the Howard Carter has led straight to the findings of many golden jewelry artifacts. This excavation led on to the discovery of many funerary artifacts among which the most popular one is the funeral mask of King Tutankhamun.
In traditional Greece, gold jewelry were spotted in the bead shapes. Jewelries were factory manufactured in the natural shape of shells, flowers and beetles. During the traditional Greek civilization, use of gem stones like emerald, garnet, amethyst and pearls were basically found to make multi-coloured gold jewelries. It in addition has recorded use of colourful stones, glasses and enamels.
In ancient Italy, the 8th century Italians from Tuscany produced crystallized textured gold jewelries. These ancient Italians had their own unique designs related to their cultures. The hollow pendant with perfume inside is among the most unique styles from the Italians. They also made big fibulae or clasps, necklaces, earrings and pendants. The Romans, some 2000 years ago, are found to have using sapphire from Srilanka, cloudy emeralds, garnets, and Indian diamond crystals.
Gold has been so well-liked throughout the history of the different civilizations. The various civilizations have contributed to the fondness for the gold jewelries through their unique designs and styles. The traditional Egyptians, Greeks and Romans were some of the largest civilization which used gold and created various styles and designs.
