Maintenance & Repair Of Security Gates
Security gates are installed in communities and properties for the safety and protection of people and properties dwelling inside the gated area. Aside from large communities and industrial complex areas, even residential and commercial structures individually owned utilize gates for security and safety.
The usual materials used for security gates include steel and other form of metal, concrete, and wood. Gates made of metal are more commonly used whether for small or large structures. Wood is often applied in the country side, in rural areas, and in villages where security and safety is already applied from the main entrance gate to the whole range of the village walls. Concrete on the other hand is used only for a portion of the gate especially at the sides. Some gates may also feature barb wires, broken cemented glass, and/or electrically charged wires on top of the gate for additional security.
Aside from materials, gates can also be categorized depending on the type of lock applied to them. These can be either manual locks or automatic locks. Manual locks are operated manually while automatic locks are operated by computers. In most gates like these, a badge or a biological identification will be required before an individual is granted access beyond the gates. Biological identification may include finger prints, face recognition, and exposing other bodily parts to the scanner for identification.
Surveillance cameras are often integrated with security cameras too. Related equipment can be personally installed by the owner or can be done by a professional. Monitoring of the security video feed can also be done either way. With or without surveillance cameras, personnel may also be employed for additional security. They can manually patrol the vicinity and attend to the gate when needed.
Investing in durable materials is the best way to maintain a security gate. Here, you have already prepared for potential damage long before it even happens. Natural calamities such as flood, earthquake, and tornadoes may easily destroy gates which are poorly constructed and/or made of low quality materials. Spending money on materials which are known to last longer is much better than cutting cost on items which will be replaced sooner.
In case this type of preparation was not done prior to the construction or installation of a security gate, certain measurements can be applied afterwards. Scratches and minor physical damages cannot be prevented due to stray animals, natural calamity, accidents, and unforeseen circumstances. But they can be minimized or stopped before any further damage is caused.
The presence of surveillance equipment and security personnel close to the gates will be advantageous for maintenance purposes. These equipment and personnel will have first hand information on what’s happening within the vicinity of the gate. In this way, any potentially damaging forces outside the gates can be prevented from causing any trouble or damage right away.
Regularly cleaning the gate and its surrounding area is also part of the maintenance. If the gate is painted, be careful with the cleaning agents used. Otherwise, the paint color may fade sooner than it should. In relation to paints, changing the color or re-applying paint should also be done seasonally or as the need arises.
