How great merchandise designs can keep how band going
What are the benefits of branded merchandise for your band? Lets take a closer look at one of the Brit award winners from last night to highlight a point.
Iron maiden, Bruce Dickinson and his clansmen won ‘best live band’ at the Brits last night. About time, they’ve only been going since the late 70′s. I saw Iron Maiden at Twickenham last year in June, there were 5 seperate merch stands always surrounded with people needing an Iron Maiden t-shirt. Here’s one of the dirty secrets in the music industy- unless you sell millions of albums, bands dont see alot of money. Most of their money comes from merchandise sales and tour. Maiden and other band such as metallica sell thousands of merchandise at gigs. which given that they bands play staduims and a t-shirt is £20 each, thats a very sweet pie to be munching at. But when they were a smaller band in the late 70′s early 80s The sales of iron maiden’s zombie buddy Eddie on a t-shirt help keep the band on the road until their career reached a new peak with number of the beast, where things became alittle easier financially. Other bands such as the infamous Cannibal Corpse (yes, they exsist) sell t-shirts just on the basis on the shocking (and awesome) imagery -what can you expect from a band with an album called ‘gallery of suicide’, merch sales have helped keep them going for years and they are currently touring as we speak.
Promotional merchandise can also help get your bands name out there.
People will want to display their cool looking band shirt out in public, which may attract like minded people and get them to investigate the band. The more people are exposed to your logo, the more can become interested and quickly become merch buying fans. people will have one copy of the album, but 2 or 3 different t-shirts (i myself have numerous maiden t-shirts!!!!).
