What is it with the felting trend in artisan crafts?

Don’t get me wrong, some of the stuff looks pretty neat, but felt just seems likely to get dusty and dirty very quickly….and the volumes of felted items I’ve seen suggest people are buying massive amounts of dust bunny collectors. Is felting just really easy?

It IS easy (although time-consuming) to make and to work with, but part of the reason for its popularity is that it’s a ‘green’ craft – it allows people to make something useful and pretty from something that’s damaged, out of style or ill-fitting, to avoid it going to a landfill. Given how it’s made, if it DOES get dusty it can easily be washed, but in a sense, many pieces of art DO amount to dust collectors.
