ART: How would I make a life size sculpture out of Newspaper able to support itself???
I am doing a statue out of newspaper for an art exhibition and It is going to be a life size version of a person. It is going to be sitting on a seat, but How will I make the spine support the top of the body etc? Run through the steps you think it would take please! and thanks for your help!
what will be visible is just rolled and crumpled up newspaper but I could use something inside the body as support, what do i do?
Does it need to actually support the body or just look like it?
if you want to keep it light and tough, use Elmers glue. you will need forms though. use balloons and wide cellophane tape. you can sculpt the balloon by wrapping the tape around it. Tape acts as a great tapering medium. you can make icicles with just wrapping tape around itself. So this would be easy to make a positioned manikin then paper mache it.
then when it’s dried- and assuming you used 100% glue, it would be rock hard and tough enough to move. Make sure you criss cross the seams jut to add extra strength. You could cheat with a layer of cotton gauze.
the spine is not needed – make the exoskeleton strong enough.
